Defining Bittersweet
July 15, 2008
I’m leaving Guadalajara in 4 days.
I’ll be home in 4 days.
I think half of me is in denial, and the other half is counting the minutes. On one hand, I’m leaving friends, a new family, my school. It’s amazing how quickly people and things can become your familiar. We’re starting all our “lasts”… our last excursion, our last lunches with Marianna, our last day of classes, last shopping trips, last games of bowling, last night at Walstreet… all these lasts. It’s so sad to think about, but at the same time, it makes you really appreciate every minute. Guanajuato was amazing. I’m talking easier with Marianna than I ever thought would have been possible, and I love it. My crew and I are having a blast doing anything and everything, just because we know it’s the last time we’ll all ever hang out again… I actually won our last game of bowling tonight with a 125. I bowled a turkey and a 9 to finish out the game, lol. It was hilarious.
But, on the other hand, I don’t think 10 minutes went by tonight without somebody saying something they can’t wait to see, do, eat, or have. The givens: our families, friends, significant others. But also: our cars, beds, pets, radios, cell phones, and food. Oh my gosh, food. My friend Ross already has his first 5 American meals planned out. I’m sick again. AGAIN. I didn’t know you could catch this crap twice. So yeah, as bad as we want to stay, we want to get home too.
So, I’m just going to live up these next few days. Study hard, play hard, and sleep for 3 days when I get home! I’ve got my finals on Thursday, so please pray that they go smoothly and my classes wrap up well. Thursday night is just going to be a gigantic celebration, because most people start leaving on Friday and early Saturday, so please pray for everyone’s safety in that.
So yeah, it’s definitely going to be sad, but it’s not over yet!
And for those waiting for me back home… 4 weeks and 3 days down, 4 days to go!
So glad to hear from you again. Your whole adventure sounds amazing!!! Have a safe trip home, enjoy good old american food and get plenty of rest. Don’t forget one minute as I want to hear all about it.
Love ya’
J’on
